ToneHue is a Chrome browser extension that analyzes the emotional tone of text you type in your browser. It provides a real-time color signal around your text box to help you understand how your writing may be interpreted before you send it.
ToneHue collects the following data:
ToneHue does not collect:
When you type in a text box with ToneHue active, your text is sent to the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) using your personal API key. Anthropic processes the text to return a tone classification and suggested rewrites. ToneHue does not retain a copy of this text after displaying the result.
Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle API requests.
If you use ToneHue's built-in microphone feature, your voice is processed by your browser's built-in Web Speech API (provided by Google in Chrome). ToneHue does not record or store audio. Please review Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Chrome handles speech recognition.
All ToneHue settings are stored using Chrome's storage.sync API, which syncs your preferences across Chrome devices where you are signed in. This data never passes through ToneHue servers — it is managed entirely by Google Chrome.
ToneHue does not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with any third parties except:
We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics platforms.
Your Anthropic API key is stored locally in Chrome's encrypted sync storage. It is transmitted directly from your browser to Anthropic's API over HTTPS and never passes through ToneHue servers. We recommend keeping your API key private and regenerating it if you believe it has been compromised.
ToneHue is designed to support users of all ages including children and students, particularly those who may benefit from tone guidance such as individuals on the autism spectrum. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. ToneHue does not require account creation or any personal information to function.
ToneHue is designed to never activate on password fields, payment forms, or other sensitive input types. If you encounter ToneHue activating on a sensitive field, please report it to us immediately so we can address it.
You have full control over ToneHue's behavior:
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
